У нас є така сполука "вчений секретар". Кумедний совєтський витвір, як і "вчене звання", "вчена рада", "вчений агроном" тощо. Якось я поправив був одному такому секретареві назву посади на "головного наукового секретаря", то він знервовано зауважив, що наукою не займається, тому "вчений". Я утримався цитувати йому Ландау: «Учёными бывают собаки, и то после того, как их научат. Мы — научные работники!», бо власне тому док.фіз.-мат.н. було видніше, чим він займається. Колись була посада "неодмінний секретар". Ним був, наприклад, А.Кримський. Це прийнятна назва, але в американців є ще один секретар - той, що займається зв’язками з закородоном. В.Винниченко он був генсеком внутрішніх справ, тому цілком, як на мене, може бути секретар внутрішніх справ і секретар зовнішніх справ, хоч це і незвично У Святого Престолу є secretarius domesticus, або в перекладі домашній секретар, чи приватний секретар. Але, на мій погляд, це трохи заплутувало б суть справи

можна покручі, або виродки, freak має досить негативне емоційне забарвлення в повсякденній мові

От і в українській покруч/виродок має чітко негативне забарвлення. А йдеться ж про кислоти. Тре’ якесь нейтральніше слово

а чому, якщо в оригіналі вжито емоційно-негативне слівце, ми маємо його «ушляхетнити» в перекладі?

от означення freak я бачу в нього не тільки негативні відтінки, є і незвичний, курйозний, нерегулярний, примха тощо. А якщо подивитися наші словники, то взагалі нічого негативного

а якщо взяти ті ж при́мха, химе́ра?
